Just like that, we are already 4 weeks into the 2025 NFL season and my god, has it flown. There are certain things going exactly how most football fans expected them to and other things that have caught all of us by surprise, so let’s just dive into it. I’ll start with my Cowboys because it’s a must that every NFL post I make I have to bring up my teams. The Cowboys offensively have been ROLLING and their games are consistently exciting to watch. Dak Prescott is playing like the best version of Dak here early in the season, and he’s doing it with or without Ceedee Lamb on the field as he’s been sidelined with an ankle sprain. That has honestly been a very pleasant surprise for me so far and it’s filled me with a semblance of hope for the year; we’ve been playing competitive ball! At least the offense has been, on the flipside of things though the defense has been abysmal. The Cowboys simply CANNOT guard wide receivers and have consistently let up big splash plays that have just killed us. Last year we couldn’t stop the run and this year we can’t stop the pass. All things considered though, if they could just get the defense healthy and fixed and at least better than they are now, the Boys look like a competitive team. Speaking of stopping the run though, I’m just going to quickly talk about my other team, the Browns. The Browns have had the opposite problem as the Cowboys so far this year, their defense has been playing lights out and their offense cannot get it together whatsoever. The Browns are about to start Dillon Gabriel this weekend, their 41st quarterback since 1999 if that tells you anything. This offense has been trying to get it figured out for a very long time. I do agree with the decision to start the rookies though, Gabriel or Sanders, doesn’t matter to me. We just need something fresh on that offense, love Flacco and think he’s a legend but he’s maybe reached the end of his run in the league. The man simply isn’t mobile anymore and he’s getting crushed in the pocket as a 41 year old. Let the man go home and watch football from the couch! He deserves a comfy retirement, but I don’t want him quarterbacking a team I’m a fan of anymore.
Looking elsewhere around the league though, the AFC South may be one of the more surprising divisions here early in the season. Didn’t think I’d be saying that before the season but here we are. The Texans, who I and many others predicted to take that division this year coming into the season, are off to a very slow start and are currently sitting at 1-3. Meanwhile, Daniel ‘Indiana’ Jones has come into the season revitalized and is currently slinging that rock for the Indy Colts. He’s having a season reminiscent to Sam Darnold last year, 2 QBs that everyone wrote off who went to a new team and produced, making everyone question if it was actually the New York team they played for that was the problem. The Bills and the Eagles are the only 2 teams in the league still undefeated, currently sitting at 4-0 but that’s not a real big surprise to anyone. The Jets, Titans, and Saints are the only winless teams in the league, currently sitting at 0-4. Again, not that big of a surprise to anyone. Although I will say, yes, the Eagles are undefeated, but their wins have been a bit ugly. The offense doesn’t feel like it’s clicking like it was last year, Saquon isn’t rolling just yet and AJ Brown has hardly been utilized and if you don’t have those 2 guys going then the offense just isn’t going to look as good. Simple as that, and I promise I’m not just being a hater either because I’m a Cowboys fan. I think the Eagles are certainly a playoff team, but if this is what the team looks like when they enter the playoffs then they aren’t getting back to the Super Bowl this year, just my opinion. I know it’s still early in the year, but you still have to have these discussions because you know they’re having them internally as well. I was hoping for more for Cam Ward early in the year though on the Titans, just to speak on one of the 0-4 teams as well. The guy seems like a true competitor who desperately wants to turn things around in Tennessee, but it’s just been bad so far this year. Like he even said after the game last week, “To keep it a buck with y’all, right now we’re ass.”
Joe Burrow, Malik Nabers, and Tyreek Hill have all faced season ending injuries already this season and those are some of the most notable and team changing injuries to happen so far. I get that its football and these types of things are going to happen, but there’s only certain players in the league that if they get injured it can completely change the landscape and outlook for the team they play on for the rest of the year. Burrow getting injured has COMPLETELY depleted the Bengals offense this year so far, I don’t even want to get started on how ridiculous it is that the Bengals didn’t do anything in the offseason to get this man some protection. They’re paying him so much money and he just cannot stay healthy and at this point I’m mad and they’re not even my team. Malik Nabers was the latest victim in MetLife Stadium, and in the first game with Jaxson Dart under center as well. I don’t know if I fully buy into the turf being the problem or not, but it does feel like a lot of people get hurt at MetLife, especially with ACL injuries. Tyreek Hill got his leg practically bent sideways at the knee this past Monday and that was a horrible looking injury. He tore multiple ligaments and his ACL, so I expect he’ll probably be out till at least mid-next season. The NFC North is as competitive as ever at this point, with every team sitting at 3-1 or 2-2. The NFC West is a HIGHLY competitive division right now as well, but the Niners are extremely banged up, and the Rams and Seahawks feel like they’re rolling. There isn’t a team in the league that’s more beat up as a unit than the 49ers are currently. They’re out multiple WRs, Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, their locker room is an ER unit at this point, my goodness. Things are starting to heat up though; players are starting to settle in, and teams are starting to find their identity for the year, bye weeks are beginning, so things are only about to get more interesting. Fingers crossed for as few injuries as possible moving forward because I love seeing teams out there looking their very best, with their best players possible on the field, no matter who the team is. That just makes for the best football so we should all hope for that.
